Ruth Crear, A Multi-Talented Volunteer

Volunteers are a precious asset to any organization and we have a woman who is a great example! Ruth Crear has volunteered with God’s Portion for two years, wearing a variety of hats. Ruth lives in Vader, and works there as an Assistant Fire Chief and Firefighter EMT. She cares deeply about peoples lives and brings that care to all of her commitments. As a board member, Ruth has a good understanding of the foundation of God’s Portion. She serves as secretary on the board and does valuable administrative work in the warehouse office. Ruth also works out on the floor coordinating the food distribution. When asked Ruth said, “my favorite part of being here is the variety of people we work with and the reward of knowing people are being fed. Ruth said things keep getting better all the time. What we always need are more dedicated volunteers to compliment our team. “

Thank you Ruth for all that you do for your community and for God’s Portion.

Leadership with God at the Wheel

Seasons come and go and a new season is blooming at God’s Portion. Prayer is the key to keeping us focused and God faithfully blesses with His abundance. We have stories each week of how prayer has been answered and God has changed lives. We are more than a food bank, we are a church.

Another answer to prayer is the presence of Richard Norton who continues to give his excellent expertise to a team of leaders at the warehouse. Pastor Ken Coate and Ruth Crear not only work on the floor moving food and encouraging volunteers, but they also lead with administrative skills to keep the operation running smoothly. You will also see Carol Marlow every week out on the floor faithfully helping volunteers, serve ministries and programs who receive the food. In the office a new regular is Linda Coate, who gives administrative support each week. Come on down and join us for prayer, lend a hand, and share in the new life we all enjoy in Jesus. There is always enough.

‘The Chip Guy’ Provides Free Food for All From ‘God’s Portion’ in Centralia

When food banks and ministries have taken all they need from the God’s Portion warehouse in Centralia, Richard Graves — better known online as The Chip Guy — and a group of volunteers open the warehouse to the public.

The God’s Portion warehouse, located in Centralia, acts as a “food bank for food banks,” Graves said. Companies such as Kettle Chips, Safeway, Kroger,  Pepsi donate food and beverages to God’s Portion to be distributed to area food banks each week. However, the companies often donate more than the food banks can accept, whether it’s a matter of having too much of a specific item — such as chips or soda — or taking in too much produce that could in turn go to waste.

Very often there is food that can be given to the public one or two times a week. Wednesday and Saturday afternoons are announced on the Chip Guy Facebook page, on God’s Portion Facebook and on the sign posted on the street side of the warehouse. Each week is a little different and it’s great to see the excess food heading home with families and people who need it.
